Repair or replace?
Not every problem means new windows. A single foggy pane in an otherwise good window can sometimes be fixed by replacing just the glass unit. A window that won't stay open may only need a new balance. Small gaps can be re-caulked.
Replacement usually makes more sense when:
- You're seeing several of the signs above, or the same problem in multiple windows
- The frames are soft, rotting, or warped
- The windows are single-pane or more than 20 years old
- Repair quotes are adding up to a big share of what new windows would cost
How long do windows last?
Most windows last about 15 to 30 years, depending on the material, how well they were installed, and how much sun and weather they take. Arkansas heat, humidity, and storms are hard on windows, especially on south and west-facing walls.
